Amazing Motorcycle Features that People Don’t Know

In these days, Motorcycles are the most important commuting vehicles in the Automobile world. It is the best alternative than cars for one or two-person in short distance travelling. It is far cheaper than a car in running, maintaining and initial cost aspect. In developing countries, motorcycles are most important for daily commuting. But in some developed countries, motorcycles are luxuries goods. Many peoples ride Motorbikes regularly. Some of the rides for their need and some of the rides for fun. These days Motorcycle comes with amazing features that peoples don’t know so much. Drivers know how to ride a bike perfectly, but sometimes they are not much aware of the features, that makes the ride easier. So lets we will see what are the amazing Motorcycle feature that people don’t know.

 

1. Trip Meter:

Trip Meter is located in the speedometer dial box, under or above the odometer. It is just similar to the odometer. But we can reset it to zero, after measuring the distance between one point to others or anytime when we want. Usually, in analogue type speedometer clusters having only one trip meter. But in Digital clusters, sometimes two trip meters are provided. People really don’t know how to and why to use the trip meter? 

2. Fuel Tank Reserve:

Almost all bikes having a Fuel Tank reserve valve or indicator. In some bikes having digital or analogue fuel indicator, some having a reserve valve, and some having both. When the fuel tank almost empty, we need to turn the valve to the reserve. This is the indication to refuel before the tank will empty. With the reserved amount of fuel, we can drive the bike for a few miles or kilometres only. In a digital fuel indicator, the fuel sign will blink continuously. This is a reminder for refuelling. If the driver ignores this warning, he/she may need to suffer from bike pushing.

3. Pass Light Switch:

A quick push switch on the left-hand side handlebar in almost all bikes turns on the high beam lamp while pressing and turns off while releasing. This switch is located just near the index finger, on left-hand side handlebar. It is used in two situations:
1. On the narrow or curvy path, when a vehicle is coming from the front, and you need a way to pass him. That time you should use this switch, the front vehicle gives you a path as possible. Usually, it is also used on double lane road to request the slow down of the front vehicle driver.

2. When our vehicle is faster than the vehicle ahead, and we need enough way to overtake it, that time we should use this switch to indicate the driver.

4. Low & Hi-Beam Light Switch:

All bikes and cars having two headlights, a low beam and a high beam headlight. People really don’t know how and when to use these beams. A switch on the left-hand side handlebar, having two light modes, ie, High beam and Low beam mode (Switches are in the above image). Low beam headlight should ON at every time in the night. But High beam light should not need to ON without any proper reasons. Using the high beam unnecessarily is so dangerous for others. Let see when should we need to use the high beams.

The reason for using the high beam is to get a clear view at the night for long-distance. Where no other source of light will available. If there is any vehicle in the 200-300 meter range, then you should have to switch the low beam. If you are driving on city roads, where road lights are available. You should use low beam headlamps. When you taking a turn on a curvy road, you can use high beam light just for seconds, to get a clear vision. We will discuss in detail in our next article what are reasons to use high beam headlights.

5. Position Lamp:

Parking Lights are also known as Positioning lamps. These lamps are used to indicate the vehicle position either parked or a vehicle is moving. A switch having a telltale, Parking Lamp Telltale  it means a bulb having less intensity than the headlamp (~7W or less) in Headlamp. And rear brake lamp with low intensity and registration plate lamp will turn on. Usually, it is used when the headlamp is turned off or bikes having a sidecar.

6. Adjustable Rear Shock Absorber:

The rear shock absorbers having adjustable cutouts, either on the top or bottom end. Some bike having 7,5,4 or 3 way adjustments. The rider can adjust the hardness of the suspension using this cutout. If the suspension adjusted in deepest groove, it makes softer suspensions. And in the shallow groove, the suspension will smother. These grooves behaves like cam locks.

7. Rear View Mirror:

The rearview mirrors are mounted on the handle. In these days, all bikes and scooters having two, right side and left side mirror. To see the behind object or vehicles during riding. A rider can see in front, right and left side easily. But, on the rear side, the rider can use the mirrors to see.

8. Helmet or Side Bag Locks:

Helmet or Side bag Locks are also an amazing feature. Generally, only a few motorcycle manufacturers provide this lock in the bike. But this is a very helpful feature. Wearing a helmet during riding is must compulsory for safety. But, after reaching your destination, we need to keep the helmet in a safe place. This lock holds and protects the helmet.

9. Ignition Kill Switch:

A red switch near the race (accelerator), can see in the above image. This switch is very helpful for safety and convenience purpose. It provides easiness to turn ON and OFF the engine quickly. And it provides safety because you must have to turn it ON before turning ON the engine. 

10. Tachometer:

An analogue dial just near the speedometer, having numbers and then it will be multiplied with 1000, this reading shows the engine’s rpm. The x1000 or x100 also mentioned in this analogue dial. This Tachometer is a very useful feature for a good rider. Seriously, a very large number of riders don’t know the actual use of this meter. It indicates when gears need to shift down or up and also warns about clutch plate wearing (if you owns your vehicle for a long duration).

Some bikes having analogue tachometer or some having digital. This will help to tune the idling rpm of the engine as well. Regular observations of the tachometer can help to improve the engine’s efficiency.

11. Side Stand Indicator:

The side stand is a basic requirement of a bike. Every time it is not possible to stand the bike on the main stand. For easy and quick parking, the side stand is most preferable. Ultimately, kick stand is very useful. But, besides the utility, it’s having cons as well. Sometimes rider forgets to remove the side stand in hurry. It can create a dangerous situation. To avoid this, the manufacturer provides an alarm or indicator in the instrument cluster. It may be either red or any light, or a sound warning signal. To avoiding a bike manufacturer.

Additionally, some bikes are equipped with gear shifter lock with side stand. While the kick stand is down, it won’t allow to shift the gear. This function, really adds an additional safety feature to the bike.

 

12. Emergency Medical Kit:

An emergency medical kit is very important in your bike’s kit compartment. It helps in an emergency situation, not so much but It is like a drowning man will clutch at a straw. Peoples ignores this thing every time. But a good driver must have a renewed kit at every time. Not only for himself or herself, but this kit will help others as well.

13. Tool Kit:

A set of open-ended spanners, spark plug/box spanner, fixed spanner and a screwdriver. This kit is very useful in fixing small problems like changing the spark plug, loosening or tightening the hardware, etc. Personally, I would like to recommend to every bike rider, they have to keep the tool kit with advance and multipurpose tools. This practice is very useful in an emergency situation.

14. Combi Brakes:

Combi brake works on both drum and disc brakes. This is special features for safety purpose. Usually, bikes having individual brakes for rear and front wheels. In an emergency, the rider quickly applies one brake, there are chances of skidding. This situation will dangerous. But in the combi brake system (CBS), both brakes work together. This will stop both wheels smoothly and quickly. CBS also helps in short distance braking with an advanced control. 

15. Registration Number Plate Lamp:

Your bike’s rear registration plate having a mast light for itself, Did you know? Yes, usually above the rear registration plate having an individual lamp, and some having a dedicated lamp inside of the brake lightbox. This light highlights the registration plate at the night. So behind the vehicle driver can see the registration number. It works with the bike’s headlight.
